Disciplined Agile® Senior Scrum Master (DASSM)

Total Duration: 14 Hours

This course teaches experienced agile practitioners how to use the Disciplined Agile® (DA™) tool kit to optimize how teams work, work with allies within their organization, and solve a variety of advanced problems.

 

Target Groups

 

The course is suitable for experienced agile practitioners who

 

  • want to learn how to successfully lead one or more agile teams,

  • are looking to accelerate their ability to manage high-profile initiatives that are critical to enterprise success,

  • want to take business agility to the next level by applying agile and lean techniques in a wide range of situations.

  • pursue the Disciplined Agile® Senior Scrum Master (DASSM) certification

 

The course requirements are as follows:

 

  • Two years of experience working in an agile team, ideally in a leadership role such as Disciplined Agile® Scrum Master, Scrum Master, Product Owner or Architecture Owner.

  • Understanding of the fundamentals of the DA™ tool kit.

Content

 

1. Team development for high performance teams

  • Describe the Tuckman team development model

  • Determine team development at each stage of the Tuckman team model

  • Solve problems at different stages

2. Emotional intelligence for high performance teams

  • Define emotional intelligence

  • Explain each component of emotional intelligence

  • Identify why one should create psychological safety and embrace diversity

 

3. Tactical scaling in complex situations

  • Explain the significance of agility in an organization

  • Determine how to scale agility

 

4. Removing impediments

  • Describe the Disciplined DevOps layer

  • Use the Disciplined DA™ toolkit to solve challenges in the DevOps layer

  • Optimize the delivery with the "test-first" method as it relates to the quality requirements

  • Determine the criteria for what "done" might look like

  • Describe the value stream layer in the scope of DA™

  • Use the DA™ toolkit to solve challenges in the value stream layer

 

5. Coordinating and collaborating across teams

  • Explain the “Coordinate Activities” process goal

  • Identify how to improve the value creation structure of teams

  • Use the DA™ tool kit to optimize the flow of work and solve challenges related to coordinating and collaborating across teams

 

6. Conflict management for high performance teams

  • List examples of when conflict can be healthy

  • Explain the Thomas-Kilmann conflict resolution model

  • Demonstrate how to use healthy and unhealthy language to solve a conflict

 

7. Pragmatic planning and reporting

  • Describe the concept of sufficient planning

  • Define the five levels of scope including who focuses on each

  • Determine how to solve a planning problem using the “Release Planning” goal diagram

  • Explain how organizations and teams approach metrics

  • Explain what types of measurement work or do not work

  • Explain how to choose and design specific metrics to measure improvements against areas related to team performance that need improvement (GQM, OKRs)

  • Demonstrate how to solve a measurement problem using the “Govern Delivery Team” goal diagram

Delivery format: The classes are live streaming – virtual events; Zoom will be used. The instructor sends the meeting requests.

 

Course schedule: Before the course starts, the instructor and students meet via Zoom to create a course schedule.

 

Course intensity: The classes will be limited to a maximum of four hours per day.

 

Minimum class size: 1 student.

Pre-course meeting: Before the course starts, the instructor conducts a Zoom meeting with each student individually.

 

Course Materials: The course materials are developed by the Project Management Institute (PMI)®. The students are going to access the licensed content.

 

Post-Course Support: Tutoring sessions are conducted after the course and before the student takes the exam. In addition, the instructor provides assistance to the student during the exam application process. The maximum length of the tutoring sessions is 14 hours and the maximum duration is 3 months.

Information about the DASSM certificate:

 

1. Two years of experience working in an agile team is required, ideally in a leadership role such as Disciplined Agile® Scrum Master, Scrum Master, Product Owner or Architecture Owner. Understanding of the fundamentals of the DA™ tool kit is required.

 

2. Complete the DASSM course.

 

3. After the course, you will receive a DASM exam invite. Exam fees are included with tuition. After this date, you have 12 months to take the exam. You may retake it two more times within that 12-month period if you do not pass the first attempt. However, there is a $120.00 exam retake fee. The exam is a 50-question test; its duration is 90 minutes.

 

4. DASM certification is good for one year. To renew the certification, you must earn 7 PDUs (Professional Development Units). The renewal fee is $40.
